6'6" Class Of 2012 Springfield Star Willie Wiley Is Focused On Closing Out The Season Strong Cavan Walsh February 22, 2010 Class of 2012 Springfield High School basketball star Willie Wiley is in the midst of a superb sophomore season on the basketball court, and continues to enhance his recruiting stock. Wiley ranks as one of the top Class of 2012 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois. Wiley, a 6'6" forward, is a long, athletic and highly active frontcourt star who is relentless on both the offensive and defensive glass. Wiley is a solid finisher inside, but also has the ability to stick open mid-range jumpers. Defensively, Wiley has a chance to be a star. Despite having a slight frame, Wiley actively looks to battle inside against bigger and stronger opponents, and can also guard on the perimeter as well. Wiley is pleased with the way the season has gone for his team, and is looking to close it out on a high note. “Well we want to win regionals so that we can go to the next level, and keep our season going. I’m going to just keep working hard, and try my best to keep my team up, and focused on the task at hand,” said Wiley. Wiley is also happy with his own performance as well. “It’s going pretty good so far this year. We are playing well as a team and I think I’m doing pretty good. A couple games I haven’t done so well because of foul trouble early, but other than I’m averaging about 13 points a game. And I try my best to get a double-double every game,” said Wiley. Wiley has a host of schools that are already showing interest including Illinois, Purdue, Southern Illinois and Bradley who have all come out to games, and St. Louis University, which has come in for a practice. Northwestern and Missouri State has also both shown interest. |
